The New American Home®
Merlin Contracting was privileged to build the 21st showcase home, known as The New American Home® (TNAH), for the 2004 International Builders’ Show in the gated community of The Lakes at West Sahara in Las Vegas. TNAH is the official showcase house of the annual International Builders’ Show®, which attracts 70,000-80,000 National Association of Home Builders members annually.
TNAH features innovative concepts, materials, design trends and building techniques, as well as cutting-edge performance components to enhance energy efficiency and indoor air quality. Concrete was utilized in the construction of the 2004 home for the majority of the structural elements, including flooring, decking, and exterior finish. Insulated concrete forms, structural insulated panels, and low-emission windows enabled the house to use 51% less energy for heating and 54% less energy for cooling when compared to traditional construction methods.
The 4,755-square-foot, three-level, contemporary loft home was toured by over 5,000 show attendees in 2004. The exceptional design incorporated many luxurious features, including a pair of guest suites, elevator, wine cellar with an adjacent mini-kitchen, home theater, galley kitchen with a concealed butler’s pantry, as well as a lakeside outdoor kitchen.
Merlin Contracting received recognition from the National Council of the Housing Industry for Outstanding Professionalism in Creating The New American Home® 2004. In addition to being recognized as Energy Efficient Compliant (EEC) by the Environmental Protection Agency, Merlin is the recipient of the 2004 Excellence in Home Design award from the Building Systems Council of the National Association of Home Builders and the 2004 Excellence in Concrete Award from the Las Vegas chapter of the American Concrete Institute.
